Sacred Heart Altar Dossal

1887
Church of St. Gall, Kappel (Ravensburg district), Germany

This is a typical Sacred Heart, with the flaming heart on Jesus' breast and the nail wounds showing in his hands. It is not unusual for churches to juxtapose a Sacred Heart with an image of the Virgin Mary, with or without the Christ Child.

Strictly speaking this is not a dossal, because it does not actually attach to the back of the altar, but it serves the same purpose.
